چکیده

Various surgical robotics need augmented reality functions for the extension of their abilities. To enhance the benefit of augmented reality for robotic surgery, two research experiences are described. One is the loading of the augmented reality function onto the laparoscopic surgical robot. The results of the clinical case where the commercial surgical robot da Vinch loaded with augmented reality are described. The other is the endoscopic robot system which contained an augmented reality function. The results from an animal experiment where an EMR procedure on a pig was performed using augmented reality functions so that the location and direction of the robot’s tip, which is free to move in the stomach, are detailed.

Towards the Development of a Hand-Held Surgical Robot for Laparoscopy.dvi

A minimally invasive surgery (MIS) which typically involves endoscopic camera and laparoscopic instruments may seem to be the ideal surgical procedure for its apparent benefits. However, in comparison to open surgeries, the spatial and mechanical tool limitations posed on surgeons are so high that often MIS is foregone for complex cases and even when it is possible, the procedure requires a hig...

Intra-operative ultrasound-based augmented reality guidance for laparoscopic surgery

In laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon must operate with a limited field of view and reduced depth perception. This makes spatial understanding of critical structures difficult, such as an endophytic tumour in a partial nephrectomy. Such tumours yield a high complication rate of 47%, and excising them increases the risk of cutting into the kidney's collecting system. To overcome these challenges,...

Superpixel-based structure classification for laparoscopic surgery

Minimally-invasive interventions offers multiple benefits for patients, but also entails drawbacks for the surgeon. The goal of context-aware assistance systems is to alleviate some of these difficulties. Localizing and identifying anatomical structures, maligned tissue and surgical instruments through endoscopic image analysis is paramount for an assistance system, making online measurements a...

Surgical Treatment of Localised Renal Cancer

The management of localised renal cancer has been revolutionised with the introduction of laparoscopy and minimally invasive techniques, achieving comparable oncologic results and reduced morbidity. With the detection rate of small renal lesions increasing, the diagnostic approach and surgical treatment shift to nephron-sparing surgery and less invasive techniques. Today, open partial nephrecto...

Measuring the Latency of an Augmented Reality System for Robot-assisted Minimally Invasive Surgery

Minimal latency is important for augmented reality systems and teleoperation interfaces as even small increases in latency can affect user performance. Previously, we have developed an augmented reality system that can overlay stereoscopic video streams with computer graphics in order to improve visual communication in training for robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery with da Vinci surgica...
